FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Shenango Area Fire District Awarded $10,000 Grant from State Farm® to Strengthen Firefighter Safety
Funding provided in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council in honor of Volunteer Firefighter Recognition Day

The Shenango Area Fire District is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of only 150 volunteer fire departments nationwide to receive a $10,000 grant from the State Farm® Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program. This initiative, presented in collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), awarded a total of $1.5 million in grants to help departments secure the equipment they need to protect their volunteers and the communities they serve.
Thanks to this generous award, the Shenango Area Fire District will purchase twenty new Cairns 1836 Fire Helmets. These helmets are vital to replace outdated gear currently in service, ensuring that the district’s volunteer firefighters are equipped with dependable, modern head protection. By upgrading this essential gear, the department can continue to keep its responders safe while enhancing overall effectiveness on the fireground. This investment directly benefits the residents of Shenango Township and South New Castle Borough, who depend on the district for fire and emergency response.
“Our firefighters proudly serve as volunteers, responding around the clock to protect lives and property,” said Chief David Rishel of the Shenango Area Fire District. “The addition of these new helmets means our team will have the reliable protection they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. We are deeply grateful to State Farm and the NVFC for recognizing the importance of investing in volunteer firefighters and supporting our mission to safeguard this community.”
In addition to the grant program, State Farm also provided the first 2,000 applicants with a complimentary one-year membership to the NVFC. This membership offers access to valuable training, tools, and resources that strengthen the nation’s volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue services.
