Shenango Fire Department is a PA DOH QRS Service
The Shenango Fire Department is a recognized Pennsylvania Department of Health Quick Response Service. This ensures that the residents and visitors of Shenango Township receive the quickest possible emergency medical care. Our QRS apparatus will respond, when available, to any medical emergency it is dispatched to. This apparatus is manned with Pennsylvania Department of Health Certified Emergency Medical Technicians and the current medical equipment as prescribed by the Emergency Medical Service Institute. A QRS unit is a non transporting basic life support vehicle that is staffed with at least one pre-hospital emergency service professional. A QRS unit is stocked with basic life support equipment as per Pennsylvania Department of Health standards. Each QRS service must pass a thorough inspection by the Emergency Medical Service Institute. After much hard work and dedication by fire personnel, the Shenango Fire Department has achieved this recognition to better serve our community.
The Department became re-certified as a PA DOH QRS service in 2010. The certification will last for a period of three years in which the department will re certified to meet current standards. After each three year period another thorough inspection must be completed for the department to remain a recognized QRS by the Department of Health.
Shenango currently has thirteen certified emergency medical technicians with hopes of making this number double over time. Each year the department sends new members to the six month long course to become certified EMT's. After the six month course, the new members take an examination administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to receive certification. Once certified, members complete a 12 hour ride along with local ambulance companies to gain further "on the job" training.
When seconds count, dedicated professionals could be the defining moment on whether your loved one(s) survive a medical emergency.
